What is CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy)?
CBT or Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is based on the premise that emotions are caused by thoughts, not by outside triggers. When something happens to us, or someone tells us something, we immediately interpret that information in a certain way that causes a feeling or emotion. By addressing our thought process, the way we think, our self-talk, we understand why we feel what we feel. By learning to challenge and reframe our thoughts, we manage our emotions.
Using a very structured therapeutic approach, CBT teaches clients to become their own therapist by learning and practicing cognitive restructuring techniques that will allow them to train their minds into thinking differently, managing intrusive thoughts, and avoiding going down the rabbit hole.
CBT has been scientifically proven to be extremely effective in reducing intense emotions such as anxiety, depression, and anger in a very short period of time. Balance Pathway uses a combination of CBT and DBT (to be discussed in a later post).
